I grew up in in a small village in the West Country, holidayed for years in North Wales and spent three years studying painting and printmaking in Sheffield surrounded by the dramatic Peak District landscape. It is true to say that it is familiarity coupled with the transitory nature of the elements that feeds my interest in the landscape; I love to paint ‘en plein air’, responding to the light and colour around me, and frequently do when we travel to France, Norfolk or when I’m in the stunning local Sussex countryside.
I trained as a painter, but pursued a career in teaching and had a family. I been able to fulfill my lifelong dream to paint seriously as a result of a family move which dictated that I would have to change jobs. I did and taking a part time teaching post has in turn, allowed me to immerse myself in painting again.
Having moved to Brighton in 2015, in May 2017, as part of the Artists Open House I had my first solo exhibition of paintings, ‘Brighton and Beyond I’ in the spectacularly beautiful setting of St Michael’s with All Angels Church. I have since exhibited twice more as part of the Seven Dials Artist Open House trail, this year holding a joint exhibition with photographer Harry Norbury, whose work can be found at www.harrynorbury.com
I work in oils on card, board or canvas. All works are for sale unless otherwise indicated and commissions are taken. Please contact me for further details.
